It is so confusing

Yesterday and the day before yesterday I had blogged about the words from the Tourism-Director. Today, this news published in mainstream newspaper (thanks to MageP’s lab for his highlight) and now who should we listen to? These pieces of news are conflict to each other; plus they are from same Ministry. Well, would they stop to confusing the public? I may wrong, please correct me if I’m wrong. Crime in Johor has affected tourism (June 21, 2007)

MUAR: Issues related with the spate of crimes and the people’s protests reported in and around Johor Baru have some adverse effects on the states’s tourism industry. Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Donald Lim said although the ministry had yet to gauge the damage, the issues had to some extent affected the tourism sector.

Speaking to reporters here he said the ministry welcomed the decision by the Cabinet on Wednesday for Johor to have additional policemen to curb crime more effectively.

“We are concerned over the several crime incidents, especially of rob-and-rape in Johor Baru, and hope efforts will be taken to curb them.” “We also hope the people will be more alert and try to protect themselves from any such incident,” he said before opening the Muar MCA division meeting on Wednesday.

*Lim said besides, they should also act fast in alerting the police if they happened to spot criminal activities in the areas, adding that, everyone should be committed in curbing crime. He said the people should also know the police hotline numbers besides the Emergency Line 999, or call the nearest police station for speedy action.

Malaysia Among World’s Safest Tourist Destinations (June 19, 2007)

KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) — Foreign tourists have no worry coming to Malaysia because the country is among the safest destinations in the world to visit, Tourism Malaysia Director-General Datuk Mirza Mohammad Taiyab said.

He said the crime rate in Malaysia was still low compared to those in some developed countries in Europe like in Paris, France, where the rate was so high that people had to queue to lodge police reports.

He gave a scenario in Milan, Italy as an example where tourists who lost their luggage were approached by the thieves who demanded payment for the return of the baggage.

“Malaysia is a safe place where even a petty crime gets reported,” he told reporters after opening the general meeting of the Association of Malaysian Bumiputera Adventure and Travel Companies (Bumitra) here today.

He was reacting to crime reports by the media, whether they would adversely affect promotions for the Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

I believe he wasn’t get details information about the recent crimes happened in Johor Baru. People called Polis DiRaja Malaysia immediately to seek for assistance. However, the response from the police was so disappointed not response of the public.

Please, understand the stories first before voice. Please don’t confuse the public again. Kindly please don’t make the situation become more complicated and smell politic.
